Two-day shipping? Yes please.

It’s a snowy day here in Washington (yes, it is the second day of spring) and I’m dreaming of … two-day shipping. If you are anything like me, you love Amazon because of its huge selection, great prices, product comparison and, in my opinion, exceptional customer focus. We have all been spoiled by Amazon, which has literally changed our shopping and shipping expectations. Remember back in 2002 when they introduced “Free Super Saver Shipping”?  My expectation these days is that all retailers should be offering two-day free shipping 🙂

According to Accenture, when faced with huge operational challenges for the 2017 Christmas season, 30% of retailers dropped their guaranteed dates for holiday shipping. Basically these retailers didn’t want to risk disappointing their customers. For retailers that did provide a shipping cutoff date, the average date was Dec. 17 (the earliest it has been since 2014). It’s a clear indication that retailers are being realistic and that they have some work to do trying to find their niche in our online world.

Kudos to Abercrombie & Fitch, Coach, and Nordstrom, all retailers that were the clear winners in the “on-time Christmas shipping” retail conundrum for the 2017 season. As for other retailers, they must ensure they are operationally competent to deliver on time, and be able to offer versatile delivery options in order to maintain the customer focus that Amazon has conditioned us to demand.
