What is a QR code?
By now you’ve seen a QR (quick response) code – maybe in a magazine ad. This is the 2 dimensional bar code that allows someone to use their smart phone to take a picture of a QR code combined with the reader software to then view interactive content or a special offer.
Beyond advertisements, QR codes are rapidly making their way into the direct mail side of things. A QR code included in a direct mail piece can direct the recipient to any number of items: personalized url, special offer, discount offer, bonus materials about the product, or whatever the marketer opts to promote, all delivered across the internet directly to the smart phone.
Why would you want to use one? I think it really depends on the audience you are marketing to – it would be effective to send to a tech savvy audience a piece that includes a QR code. It then gives you the ability to track response rates, based on clicks. And get more information out about your product. Click here to see how it works.
I’m not sold that QR codes are the be all, end all – but they are another tool for marketers.
